Traditional Fireplace
Restoration

There is no better ambiance than an open natural fireplace.

Keeping it Natural

Enjoy the beauty of a natural Fireplace without the worries of losing heat. Combining traditional fireplace, new modern designs in firebox construction and flue sizing now give the ability to create fireplaces that can efficiently help heat a home.

The Firebox Shape

a prior style fireplace burning wood and golden fire

The integrated Apex design, positioned along the rear wall, creates a concentrated heat zone that reflects thermal energy back into the combustion chamber and into the living space. This configuration promotes more complete wood combustion, resulting in cleaner burns, improved heat output, and significantly reduced creosote formation. Wood is burned more efficiently to a fine ash, while common issues such as persistent odors and smoke-related performance problems are greatly minimized.

In addition to combustion efficiency, the PriorFire-style and Rumford style systems operate using a flue diameter approximately 40–50% smaller than that of conventional fireplaces. This allows for the installation of a properly sized stainless steel liner without requiring large-scale chimney reconstruction, offering a practical and structurally efficient solution for many existing masonry chimneys.

About Lock-Top Dampers

The Lock-Top mounts on top of your chimney

On top? Yes, that is the perfect location to create an airtight seal.

A cable drops down your flue and attaches to a handle which mounts where you can reach it for convenient opening and closing.

Superior stainless steel and cast-aluminum construction equal a lifetime warranty

The Lock-Top Damper is made of cast-aluminum and stainless steel, precision fitted with our special silicone rubber gasket. These high-quality materials add up to a factory lifetime warranty for you.

Put the Lock-Top Damper to work for you. Save energy, stay warm, protect your chimney from moisture and your home from pests. These benefits will all be yours when you say 'yes' to Lock-Top.

Before and after of a natural open fireplace restored and repaired

A Stainless Steel Liner is Installed

Many older chimneys no longer meet modern safety and performance standards. Maximum Precision specializes in professional chimney modifications designed to bring existing masonry chimneys into compliance with current safety codes while correcting underlying structural and venting issues.

Our solutions address common chimney deficiencies, including deteriorated liners, improper venting, draft instability, and internal masonry damage. A properly sized stainless steel chimney liner is installed to create a continuous, sealed passage for safe exhaust flow. This liner integrates directly with the existing smoke chamber, ensuring improved draft performance, enhanced safety, and long-term durability.

The Smoke chamber

Smoke Can't Escape

To further stabilize and protect the chimney structure, the smoke chamber is resurfaced using a specialized ChamberTech cement coating. This high-performance protective layer seals irregular surfaces, improves flue gas flow, and reinforces the integrity of the internal masonry. The result is a safer, more efficient venting system designed to withstand Montreal’s demanding climate conditions.

The system is combined with a locktop damper which will give you control over the draft flow in the flue. Fuel efficiency is increased with more heat from less wood.

Keep heat and energy in… rain and animals out

If it's not the cold drafts on your feet, it's the high energy bills each month.

You've got a fireplace problem you probably don't know about. It's your damper. It leaks. Not a lot mind you, but enough to be costing you over $1000 a year in lost energy.

The Lock-Top Damper seals tight with a silicone rubber gasket

That's right, your damper seals with a rubber gasket, not metal to metal like your current damper. A Lock-Top Damper seals tight, so virtually no air, and thus no heat or air conditioning gets lost up your chimney.

The Lock-Top also eliminates downdrafts, seals out rain which can deteriorate the inside of your chimney, and prevents entry by pests like squirrels, raccoons, and nesting birds.
